Leadership
A small bench. No committee.
Ownership decisions at DMJ are made by the people who have to live with them. That is the entire org chart.

How we work
The firm stays small on purpose.
DMJ Ventures was formed in Ventura, California in 2018. We underwrite every acquisition, sit with the operators of each company, and decline the staff that would make that harder.
The work is built around operators — people who make payroll on Friday and improve the thing on Monday. That habit is the firm’s only culture document.
Headquarters is Ventura, not a mailing address. Correspondence that requires a decision reaches the people who can make one, not a queue.
A letter from Ventura
“Most holding companies are funds with a nicer name. We are not a fund. There is no outside clock, no quarterly letter to strangers, no exit committee.”
DMJ exists to own businesses the way a responsible person owns a house: carefully chosen, thoroughly understood, and not put back on the market because a calendar said so.
We will miss deals. We already have. The ones we take have to survive a simple test — would we be proud to introduce this company to a neighbor on California Street, and still own it in twenty years?
If that standard sounds like yours, write. If it does not, you will have a more entertaining time somewhere else, and we will not take it personally.
